I have Office 2007, but when I save a file, no one else can open it with
an older version of Word or Excel. |
Office 2007 uses a different file format than the older
versions of Office. If you do this to both Word and Excel, you
won't have a problem anymore. Open MS Word 2007 and click the
Windows logo in the top left. Go down to OPTIONS and select SAVE
OPTIONS. You can select the default file format to save your
files. Select Office 97-2003 format and you're done. With Excel,
you do the same, but instead select the 97-2003 XLS format instead.

I've been receiving DOCX files and can't open them. |
Office 2007 uses a new file format. If you
download this file converter for older versions of Office
(2000, XP, 2003) you will be able to open and view those new
files. NOTE: In order to see those files in the OPEN FILE
dialog, you MUST select ALL FILES. DOCX are Word files, XLSX are
Excel files. Some formatting may be lost due to the conversion. |

I just did a repair of my Windows XP installation. Now I can't get
any updates from Microsoft. They all fail. |
Download
this little
batch file and run it. It will re-register your Automatic
Updates and then the updates will download and install properly.
You only need to run it once and then you can delete it
afterwards. |

How do I use an open wireless access ? |
If you find a wireless network without security, it is possible to gain
Internet access. However, if you're asking if it's legal, technically
it's not. There are businesses that offer open wireless access and it is
legal to use. Just right click the wireless icon in the system tray and
show wireless networks. You could connect to any that are not secured
and have enough strength to connect. I always recommend setting up
security on your personal wireless routers to prevent unauthorized users
from gaining access or control. NOTE: Some wireless access points may
show up with a strong signal, but you are unable to connect to the
Internet afterwards. This is due to the fact of a strong antenna on the
transmitter end. You're laptop or PC may not have the power to respond
and gain full control. In this case, move closer to the source if
possible. This is noticed in large wireless areas such as the Louisville
Waterfront Park area. |

Why does my wireless at home disconnect sometimes when my phone rings? |
It's very possible you have a cordless phone that is
operating on the same frequency as your wireless router. Most
older cordless phones use 2.4GHz and can override your Wi-Fi
signal. Test this by unplugging your cordless phones and see if
that fixes the problem. You can purchase newer 5.8GHz phones
that will not cause a problem. I owned a Panasonic phone that
was notorious for kicking us offline when the phone rang. |

I have a file that was created with Microsoft Works, but I can't open it
with Microsoft Word. |
You need the converter add-on from Microsoft. Click
HERE to download the converter and install it. Once it's
installed, open Microsoft Word and click OPEN. You will need to
change to see ALL FILES and then you can open the WPS file type.
It does not change the association of that file type to
automatically open in Word. You can also save in MS Works format
as well, but there is no guarantee it can be reopened in Works.

I can't watch Flash videos on my PC. It says to download the player,
which I've done, but I still can't see the video! |
I've had that issue too on a few computers.
Download the
full Flash Player 9 installation and it will work. You do
not need to restart Internet Explorer, just try the link again.
It may have something to do with the ActiveX control not being
installed properly and registered. This will fix the problem. |
