If your Spectrum internet is slow and you’ve run a speed test that comes back looking like something from a DSL connection, we may have your answer as to why.
When Spectrum took over Time Warner, all user accounts were still under the old billing system. If you didn’t upgrade to ‘Spectrum Billing’, your internet connect was being ‘throttled’, meaning they slowed you down until you had to call for service. They won’t tell you why your speed is so slow. You have to dig for the answer yourself.
If you want 200 megabit speed (that you’re already paying for), you have to ‘ASK TO BE SWITCHED TO SPECTRUM BILLING PLAN’ and amazingly your internet will jump from 25mb/sec (or so) up to 200mb/sec or more. But you need to be aware of one other issue with this. You will save about $40 a month by switching, but you’ll also lose a few TV channels. To get those back… you have to upgrade to the next package deal, which cost about $40 more per month. So technically, they are not saving you money.
Just be thankful that ALL COMPANIES DON’T PULL TRICKS LIKE THIS. Just think if your car went slower and slower just because you didn’t renew the warranty? This type of ‘business practice’ should be illegal.
NOTE: They only do this for residential customers. Business customers are not affected by the ‘throttling’.
