If you use Chrome and save your passwords, you may have noticed a screen that pops up reminding you to check for ‘Compromised Passwords’. This means that one of your accounts may have been compromised. Someone has your password, or it’s been found online in a huge database.
HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? I know you were thinking that.
It’s super easy. Let’s say that Website “A” is a forum that you’ve viewed and participated in for a while. It was hacked and someone downloaded the users information. This would include your email address and the password you used to log in to that site. Well, now it’s floating out there on the web for others to see.
The same thing can happen to your credit card info, tax info, and even your social security number. If you see a message that passwords may have been compromised, take it seriously. You should log into those sites and change your password.
Hopefully you didn’t use the same password for another site, such as your email account, or banking, or any financial institution. This leaves you very susceptible to getting hacked in the worst way.
